It's like the kids of the guys from DEVO covered a Michael Jackson song. Only, it's not the same Michael Jackson song as the video. Prepare to have your mind handed to you on a plate. |

For those of you that care about such things (and yes, I did steal this idea of someone else's site)- Recast the original three Star Wars movies using modernday counterparts. You don't have to recast everyone- just a few of the main ones. I haven't even thought up any yet, but I liked the idea enough to post it. And that's saying something. |

ok, so now we're back to mixes. Don't know why, but we are.
Name three good opener songs. "Achilles Last Stand" by Led Zepplin
"Some Velvet Morning" by Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra
"Charade" by Johnny Hartman
Name three good closer songs. "Nova" Amon Tobin (though I know it's taken from some old samba tune)http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000007OS2/sr=1-3/qid=1144160982/ref=sr_1_3/104-8530383-6158366?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=music
"I'm Going To Marry a Lighthouse Keeper" by Erika Eigen. Off the Clockwork Orange soundtrack. http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/1099094/a/Clockwork+Orange.htm
"Dark Eyed Sister" Harold Budd and Brian Eno. For very sedate mixes only.
What was your least succesful mix and why?
Barring all the mixes I made for people in high school that contained Yes and Emerson, Lake and Palmer on them- there was one called "Songs From Beyond The Future". This was probably around 2000-1, so I was old enough to know better. The songs were mostly electronica and were either too long, too ponderous or just too weird to live.
What was your best mix? My best mix is one that I made for someone in order to impress them. They never responded to the mix I sent them, but since the mix had all my faovrite songs in it, from all sorts genres, it's one of my favorites. In fact it's in my car right now.
Do you make "theme mixes"? And if so name some themes. I just made one called Night of the Living Tough Guys which was all music from spy and detective programs. The idea was to create a soundtrack for a ficticious detective show. I like that one a lot. I also just made one in which the theme is that it's a college radio station, replete with me playing the various DJs.
Do you ever make mixes without a particular person in mind? I have on occasion. But usually somewhere in the back of my mind, there's someone I'm thinking of when I choose a specific tune.
Give three of your mix making rules. 1)The first song is the keystone. It's gotta grab you from the get go.
2)Song order for me is also key. As is the actually distance between the songs. Some people don't fuss so much over this, but I must say this is where I miss making tape mixes as opposed to CD mixes. With a tape mix you could actually control when the next song came in. On faster songs, or songs that start out really strong, I like to have those come in sooner. On slower or quieter songs, I like to have a longer space at the end to give it more time to settle.
3) If I have multiple songs by one group, I prefer to stagger them throughout the tape. |

| | Fantan Ni Mone-Oumou Sangare | ] | Ok, for some reason I'm stuck on the idea of fictional bands today. So instead of working I've decided to make a quiz for all you so called music goobers out there. (Actually I guess this is technically more for movie goobers, but you all look the same to me so I won't differentiate.)
Name the movies that these ficticious musicians were in. And extra point for every one of their songs you can name.
Nick Rivers The Hong Kong Cavaliers Sally Bowles Ellen Aim and the Attackers Brothers Diamond (And and extra point if you can tell me the previous name of this band. But honestly, if you know who the hell this is you're going to know them by their more "popular" incarnation.)
Extra credit (1 point each): Name the series that gave birth to the character Buddha Stalin Name 3 bands from Spinal Tap Name one band name from Freaks and Geeks (NOTE: this does not have to the band that was formed by the Freaks)
And yes, you can cheat by looking these things online , but won't that just make you feel all empty and ungeeky inside?
Ranking- 1-3 points: you are rank. Do you own a tv? Or money? Go buy yourself a DVD. Start with the Rutles and work your way up from there. 6-2 points: Hmm, not bad for a movie geek. Maybe for Christmas I'll buy you a bar of soap. 9 points: Someone was paying attention during worthless class. Either that or you just cheated off of all my tests. 15+: Get a life yo-yo person. Stop obsessing over pointless form a real fake band of your own.
And here's the link that started this whole big waste-of-time train-of-thought http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/music0_name.html |

| | Got To Give It Up - Marvin Gaye | ] | So I watched Sci-Fi's reshowing of Firefly last week and I guess I'm hooked. I didn't realize it was essentially a space western. Hardly a new idea- but they do it well. Great, another hour of my life goes to the Sci-Fi channel, they pretty much own my ass on Fridays. (A claim that used to go to this guy I knew in prison named Bruno. I'm glad those days are over. Good times though, good times.) Is this interest somehow related to the upcoming movie? Why yes, yes it is. That and the fact that I'm a nerd who always jumps on the bandwagon after the horse has died. |
